The original layout had the dining room separated from a front office by a load-bearing wall. We removed the wall and transferred the load to a flush-framed LVL beam in the ceiling, supported by structural posts built into the side walls on each end. The LVL was sized and set so the finished ceiling reads as a single flat plane with no drop and no visible beam.
With the structure in, we closed the ceiling and side walls with new drywall, skim-coated the adjoining surfaces, and ran dark engineered hardwood as a continuous surface from the foyer through the full combined room. Trim was replaced and the walls and ceiling were finished flat white.
The bay window at the far end was retained and fitted with plantation shutters. The bump-out became a small lounge pocket with two leather accent chairs. A custom linear pendant, eight teardrop glass globes on a brushed stainless canopy was centered over the new 10-seat dining table to anchor the full length of the opened room.
